Lesson 2: The Garden and the Fall of Man

Supplies:
Bible (Pg 12-15)
Animal Pictures
Serpent puppet

Let's talk about how God created the earth! Can you remember some of the things He created? (Let the kids name some things from creation). God also made Adam and Eve! God loved Adam and Eve, so He created a special garden for them to live in (show picture in the Bible). The garden was full of beautiful trees with good fruit for Adam and Eve to eat. The garden was also full of all kinds of animals. It was Adam's job to name all the animals. (Show them animal pictures)

All of the animals in the garden were nice and friendly. Adam and Eve could take care of them and play with them without worrying about the animals hurting them. In fact, everything in the garden was good and safe. Adam and Eve were very happy. They even got to talk with God every day. God told them, "Enjoy my beautiful world. Take care of my plants and animals. Eat these good foods that I have given you." Adam and Eve could live in this wonderful garden and never be scared and never get hurt and never be hungry. All they had to do was follow one rule. God said, "you can eat fruit from any tree in the whole garden except one. It is a special tree. Do not eat fruit from this tree or you will die!".

One day, Eve was standing near that special tree. Then she saw a snake (pull out snake puppet).

The snake said to Eve, "did God tell you not to eat the good fruit on that tree?" Eve said, "That's right. We can eat from any tree in the whole garden except this one. He said if we eat it, we will die!" "That's not true," the snake said. "God knows that if you eat the fruit you will be as smart as Him, and that's why He doesn't want you to eat it."

Eve listened to the snake. She ate it and it tasted very good! She gave some to Adam, and he ate it too. After they ate it they were very sad because they did not do what God told them to do (show picture in Bible). God knew that they did not obey Him. God told them that because they did not obey His rule, they could not live in the garden anymore. They would have to work hard for their food, and in the end they would have to die.

Adam and Eve did not obey God. That's called sin. God still loved them after they sinned, but their lives would be much harder. God knows when we sin, too. He still loves us, but sin makes our lives harder. We need to always do what God wants us to do. God tells us what He wants us to do in the Bible. You can learn what God says in the Bible by listening to your teachers in Sunday School and listening when your parents talk to you about God. Someday when you learn to read, you can read the Bible for yourself to learn what God wants. It's very important that we always listen and obey God.

Craft ideas:

The words of this story were copied from some preschool Bible flashcards that belong to my mom (copyright by CRC Publications 1988...this is the only info I have on the cards. I'm not sure where they originally came from). I am posting this for Sunday School and homeschooling purposes only and I do not claim myself as the author of these stories.
