Lesson 23: Shepherds and Angels

Bible (pg 280-281)
Picture of angel and shepherds

The same night that God's son was born, there were shepherds sitting on a hill watching their sheep. Some shepherds were resting. Others stayed awake to make sure the sheep were safe. It was very late at night. The sky was dark.

Then the sky was filled with light. It was brighter than the brightest light you've ever seen. It was brighter than the sun! It was the light of angels. The angels of God! (show picture of angel and shepherds).

The shepherds were scared. But one of the angels said, "do not be afraid! We came to tell you good news! Baby Jesus was born tonight!" This made the shepherds happy. They wanted to see baby Jesus, the son of God. The angel said, "you will find baby Jesus in Bethlehem. He is wrapped in a blanket, lying in a bed of hay." Then the whole sky was filled with angels. They were singing songs to God. They were thanking God for His son, baby Jesus.

Then the sky turned dark again. The shepherds hurried to see baby Jesus (show pic in Bible). It was a very happy night. God's son, Jesus was born!

The words of this story were copied from some preschool Bible flashcards that belong to my mom (copyright by CRC Publications 1988...this is the only info I have on the cards. I'm not sure where they originally came from). I am posting this for Sunday School and homeschooling purposes only and I do not claim myself as the author of these stories.
