Jesus was God's son. Where do you think God's son lived? Do you think he lived in a palace with a king? No. Do you think he had nice clothes? No. Do you think he had servants? No. God's son could have lived like a rich king. But he didn't. He lived in a little village called Nazareth. His mom Mary and her husband Joseph did not have much money. Joseph worked very hard at his job. He only made a little bit of money. Jesus obeyed his parents. He loved his family. But he loved God most. God was his Father. And God had a special plan for Jesus.

When Jesus grew up, he had a big job to do! He wanted to talk to many, many people. He wanted to tell everybody about God, his Father. Jesus wanted to find helpers. One day, Jesus was walking by the lake (show pic in Bible). He saw three men. They were named Peter, James and John. They were trying to catch fish in a big net. They had been fishing all night, but they hadn't caught any fish. No fish at all (show empty net illustration)

Jesus told them to put down their nets again. They obeyed Jesus. They put their nets into the water. Then their nets were full of fish! (Show fish in net illustration)

The nets were so heavy they could hardly fit them in the boat!

The fishermen looked at Jesus and knew that He was very special. He could give them fish. He could do anything. He was God's son. Jesus asked them, "Will you follow me? Will you be my helpers?" Peter, James and John said, "Yes! We want to follow you and be your helpers!"

Jesus found twelve men to be his helpers. He called them his disciples. They would help Jesus tell everybody about God!

I'm not sure where they originally came from). I am posting this for Sunday School and homeschooling purposes only and I do not claim myself as the author of these stories.
