Lesson 35: Zacchaeus

Bible (pg 354)

Once there was a short little man. His name was Zacchaeus. He had a big job. His job was to collect money for the king. Nobody liked Zacchaeus. Nobody liked him because he tricked people. He made them pay too much money. Then he kept the money to get rich.

One day, Zacchaeus heard that Jesus was coming to town. Zacchaeus had heard wonderful things about Jesus. Zacchaeus wanted to meet Jesus. But there were lots of people around Jesus. Zacchaeus was too short to see over all the people. So he climbed a big, big tree. Now he could see Jesus very well!

Zacchaeus watched Jesus walk down the road. He watched Jesus get closer and closer. Then Jesus stood right under the tree where Zacchaeus was. He looked up and said, "Zacchaeus, come down! I'm going to your house to visit you."

Zacchaeus was so happy! He jumped down from the tree and walked to his house with Jesus. When they got to the house, Jesus told Zacchaeus that he loved him. Zacchaeus was a bad person. He tricked people. He took their money. But Jesus still loved him! That made Zacchaeus very sad. He was sorry he was so bad. He decided to give the people all the money he had taken from them.

Now he was happy. Zacchaeus was so happy that Jesus loved him!

The words of this story were copied from some preschool Bible flashcards that belong to my mom (copyright by CRC Publications 1988...this is the only info I have on the cards. I'm not sure where they originally came from). I am posting this for Sunday School and homeschooling purposes only and I do not claim myself as the author of these stories.
