Lesson 46: Peter in Prison

Supplies:
Illustrations: Jail, Peter, angel

When Jesus went to heaven to be with God, He told His disciples that He would be with them always. He would never stop taking care of them, even when He was in heaven.

Peter was one of Jesus' friends. Peter loved Jesus. After Jesus went to heaven, Peter talked about Jesus' love to everybody. One day, Peter was talking about Jesus. Some bad men grabbed Peter. They put him in jail. They did not want to hear about Jesus' love. they did not love Jesus.

Peter sat in the dark jail. The doors were locked. Guards watched him to make sure he would not escape.

When Peter's friends heard this, they were afraid. But they knew what to do. They prayed for Peter. They said, "Jesus, your friend Peter is in trouble. Please help him. We know that you are taking care of him. We know that you are strong enough to help him." Peter's friends prayed all night.

In the middle of the night, Jesus sent an angel to the jail. The angel said, "Peter, wake up! Hurry! Follow me!" Peter obeyed. The guards were asleep. The jail doors were not locked anymore. The angel and Peter walked right out into the street. Then the angel disappeared. Peter was free!

Peter ran to his friend's house. His friends were so happy! Everybody knew that Jesus was listening to them pray. Jesus was taking care of Peter. He helped Peter escape!

The words of this story were copied from some preschool Bible flashcards that belong to my mom (copyright by CRC Publications 1988...this is the only info I have on the cards. I'm not sure where they originally came from). I am posting this for Sunday School and homeschooling purposes only and I do not claim myself as the author of these stories.

  2. Honestly a lot of these illustrations are from worksheets my mom used for sunday school lessons back in the 80's! Which means the ones I used are not even available to buy anymore. But if you go to "google images" and in the search bar type in "Peter Bible Coloring Pages" there are a lot of images you can use for this lesson.
